The primary function of the Ministry of Justice is to uphold law and order. This is carried out via the courts and the gendarmarie. The High Court is the supreme court of the kingdom and tries cases which are appealed in lower courts. Subordinate to the High Court in descending order are the Regional Courts (North & South), and the County Courts. The gendarmarie operates at three levels: national, county, and city. The national gendarmes, or Sovereign Gendarmarie Force (S.G.F.), work to secure internal peace and order throughout the nation and in cases where criminal events occur in more than one county. Each county is served by a county-force which jurisdicts events that occur in more than one city or inhabited locale within its jurisdiction. Lastly, city gendarmes work to enforce the law and provide for the general comfort, health, and safety of their jurisdiction. |
